GAY BISHOP A STEP AWAY FROM ORDINATION
After winning one of two votes to be confirmed Sunday evening, the Rev. V. Gene Robinson faces the House of Bishops in a final vote Monday in his quest to be confirmed Bishop of New Hampshire. The proposed confirmation of the openly gay reverend has faced stiff opposition here and abroad in the English Anglican Church, a sister synod of the Episcopalians. Opponents of the Rev. Robinson's promotion point to ample Biblical condemnations of homosexuality, while his supporters diminish the importance of his private affairs and tout Robinson's sterling record in the ministry.
Now, the Voice of Reason would sign off on Robinson's promotion--but with a major catch. The Associated Press reported that Robinson has lived with his partner, Mark Andrew, for 13 years. This lifestyle, which includes sodomy, is irreconcilable with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Yes, He welcomed sinners into the fold. But He also said, "Go and sin no more." If Robinson believes his calling is divinely inspired, he should abandon his sinful lifestyle. If and only if Robinson is willing to refrain from gay sex will this blog endorse his promotion to Bishop of New Hampshire. If he's homosexual, he can avoid sin by being a celibate homosexual.
If Robinson is unwilling to subjugate his lifestyle to Biblical doctrine, then he has no business teaching it to parishoners who would take his blatant disregard for Romans chapter 1 as an admonition to "do as I say, not as I do." Until Robinson renounces his partnership, this blog stands staunchly against his promotion.
