"God only knows what is to happen. I see nothing impossible in that supposition. And I see things wonderfully contrived sometimes to make us happy. Where could they find such objects as in America for the exercise of their enchanting art? Especially the lady, who paints landscapes so inimirably. She wants only subjects worthy of immortality to render her pencil immortal. " --Thomas Jefferson, A Dialogue Between The Head and The Heart

    STATES TALLY 'LIBERTY POINTS'

Which state is the most patriotic, when it comes to tangible signs of patriotism like streets, highways and cities named Independence, Liberty, Freedom, etc.? Florida thinks it has the upper hand here. A feature in the Floridian section of today's St. Petersburg Times touts the Sunshine State as having a "liberty quotient" of 1.3479, determined by calculating the state's "Liberty Points" (21, 543), multiplying that number by the state's population ( 280 trillion) and multiplied it by 1,000. If there's one thing this blog loves about its country, it is the spirit of competition. Beat that, Rhode Island!
