Original Poetic Arrangement
"WHEN THE DOG ATE MOTHER'S TOES"
The tombstones in the graveyard creaked
And howled within the fragrant boughs
The spirits had forsaken sleep
Since the dog ate Mother's toes
Beside the entryway there lay
A fetid, drooping, wilting rose
It had been dropp'd upon that place
When the dog ate Mother's toes
She shan't have teased the poor dog so
But alas, the dear frau chose
When the tide of Milk-Bones ebbed
The starving dog ate Mother's toes
The goblins moaned a mournful dirge
While yellowed flesh did decompose
And all had been o'erturned that night
Because the dog ate Mother's toes.
