"God only knows what is to happen. I see nothing impossible in that supposition. And I see things wonderfully contrived sometimes to make us happy. Where could they find such objects as in America for the exercise of their enchanting art? Especially the lady, who paints landscapes so inimirably. She wants only subjects worthy of immortality to render her pencil immortal. " --Thomas Jefferson, A Dialogue Between The Head and The Heart

    MALLEABLE MALLARD

A Silver Lake, Minn. mallard has been spotted with a metal blowgun dart lodged in its cheek. Would-be-do-gooders (there's two hyphenated things that do NOT belong together) attempted to remove the dart, but the skittish duck fled before it could be extracted. The Associated Press photo cutline, which this blog is not making up, read "The duck was unable to remove the shaft from the location behind its beak last week." This blog is picturing the duck, let's call him Sherman, struggling to remove the dart via his webbed right foot. And this image is too hilarious for words.
