ASHCROFT AND THE RAINBOW
Attorney General John Ashcroft has relented and allowed the Department of Justice group DOJ Pride to hold its annual Gay Pride Month Celebration, but he has stipulated that DOJ Pride must pay for the ceremony, a hurdle other Department of Justice special interest groups have not had to jump. He also downgraded the event to "unofficial" status.
Many newspapers, magazines and television stations are mercilessly whipping Ashcroft and branding him a homophobe and a hatemonger. The far-left will have a field day with this gaffe. In the political arena, you must choose your battles carefully. Ashcroft made the wrong choice.
The belief that homosexuality is wrong is an opinion, not a phobia. Anatomically, all must acknowlege that male-male and female-female pairings are a deviation from the natural. Ashcroft is right to refuse Justice Department endorsement of such a lifestyle, but when he denies DOJ Pride the privileges that other interest groups may receive, he is guilty of discrimination.
Frankly, this blog thinks the entire mess is somewhere over the rainbow.
